People of Perigord

Stephen Hammond

Business Development/Support Manager
Perigord Dublin, Ireland

1. How long have you been working with Perigord?
I have been working with Perigord for a little over a year now. I started in July 2019 and since then its been great! I came from an Insurance background, but I have really enjoyed the last year with the company. Everyone is very friendly, approachable and helpful and feel like I have learned a lot within the last year and I look forward to the future with Perigord. Our transition to full time remote working back in March was excellent, I’ve heard some horror stories over the past couple of months from friends and family.

2. What is your role at Perigord?
My role in Perigord is Business Development/ Business Support Manager. I work with all the different divisions of Perigord supporting them to create potential sales opportunities. I report to Mark Ennis and I work closely with him on the software side of the business by doing initial demos or setting up meetings for Mark and the software team. I also work closely with the marketing team to build up our database to develop new business opportunities and I work with our Creative team and Artwork teams to seek new opportunities.

3. What does a typical day in Perigord look like for you?
Well since working from home, I realised its important to get into a routine.

8am: Every morning and go for a quick walk around the block or if I’m feeling brave, I will get a 1k run in. I started this back in March and it’s a good way to clear the head before sitting down at the desk for the day. Quick shower and a coffee and I’m good to go.
8.30am: I start my day addressing emails or follow up tasks that I have set for that morning. I work on a number of campaigns trying to set up meetings or developing opportunities. I send a lot of emails and follow ups.
11am -1pm: I focus a lot on new business calls/emails or I might have a meeting, demo or presentation set up around these times. I try to stick to these time unless a lead or potential client want something different.
1pm: Make something for lunch and take a few minutes away from the screen.
1.30pm -3.30pm: I focus a lot here on follow up calls/emails with potential leads I spoke with in past (from previous webinars or contact forms online) to see if we can set up a meeting with more senior management and try to identify future opportunities.
3.30pm to 5pm: I work on my pipeline making sure I have all follow ups done and chasing leads. I work on growing our database and working lists to clean up existing database. Reaching out to leads/companies via LinkedIn/email/calls etc.
5pm – 6pm: Normally make sure I have my tasks set up for the next day and finish up, unless I have something to complete.
6pm onwards: Usually dinner and then I either go the gym, for a cycle in park or if it’s a nice evening, I will try book in for a 9 holes of golf with one of the lads.

4. What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about the job is the challenges it can bring and finding ways to overcome these challenges and hit targets. Its always great to hear to success stories from an initial call or meeting I have done, which leads to a sale, a new project and, a new client onboarding.

5. Aside from necessities, name one thing could you not go a day without?
Probably getting some sort of exercise in every day. It makes you feel good.

6. Have you any staycations planned over the coming months?
I have indeed. I usually go to electric picnic this weekend, but its obviously cancelled this year. I have a one night stay Druids Glenn and then moving on down to Wexford for the weekend. We have sea cave kayaking booked in Hooks Head, so that should be good fun!

7. What’s your favourite food? Do you have any favourite dishes that you enjoy cooking?
I don’t really have a favourite food or meal but I do enjoy an Indian dish at the weekends! I love cooking and I think since lockdown I got to try a lot more new dishes. I watch Gordon Ramsey on YouTube to get some ideas, but they never look the same. 😂

8. If you could only have three apps on your phone, which would you pick?
Eh it’s a tough one, I try stay away from my phone as much as I can, but probably WhatsApp, Instagram and the news app.

9. What’s your favourite sport to watch and which team do you support?
Football all day long. I have two brothers so the football is always on in the house. As far as supporting anyone, I am more of a neutral supporter, but If I had to pick it would be Manchester City. To be honest I watch nearly all sports.

10. What’s your favourite TV show—the one you’re always watching on repeat?
I don’t really have a favourite TV show. My partner started watching Selling Sunset on Netflix and she got me addicted! Some of the houses they show on it are beautiful!

11. How do you like to relax after a hard day of work?
I usually get out to do some exercise or activity. Great way to clear the head! Maybe catch a quick movie when the weather gets bad and when there are new movies out.
